If your home is on the market or you have guests coming by and you need to quickly freshen the air in your home but don't have a candle or spray you can put a pot of water on the stove and add a couple of drops of vanilla, a few cinnamon sticks, some orange peel or other nice smelling spices: bring it to a boil and immediately turn the heat down and let it simmer (make sure to keep an eye on the water level, you don't want to scorch the pot and have a burned smell!)
